best picture ever

So this morning I get an email from Nan, entitled "what i did on my holidays." As Nan had just returned from the annual "Man-trip" to Las Vegas, my mind ran wild with the possibilities of what the email contained. So for the next hour or so, I tried to avoid the email, as work mates strolled back and forth. "what could it be?" i thought. Knowing the debautchery of las vegas, my mind played out every possible circumstance. Then the time had come.. to open the email. I turned my monitor, ever so slightly, and peered over the cubicle walls to ensure privacy, then i opened the email.... and saw the photo below.

Easily the greatest picture ever, thanks guy!

drivin in Langley

Recently, John boy and i dropped in on the Langley hot rod and classic car show to check out the sites. man, it was bonkers as there was cool rides all over the place; so much so that we were not able to check out all of em. despite my lazyness, here's my highlights of what we saw

the rides of No9 customs, and some amazing race bikes - despite these bikes, the rest of the bike section was pretty lame

really, really diggin these rides lately

overhauled

remember that show Overhaulin. man, i loved that show, they would "steal" a persons car and then return it to em all done out. Apparently some dork complained about the work that was done to his car, which resulted in the show getting canned. Bitterness aside, my favourite ride that they built was Chip Foose's truck. this thing was all time and is my dream ride right now, check it out - you know you love it

johnny on the spot

one thing about this bike is that its loud. now i'm talking loud in a nasty, ass kicking way; i love it. John took a bone stock 2009 harley "girls" bike and hammered out what you see here. What i dig about the bike is the details - john took the stock risers, cut and machined them down to what you see in the pics - while also cleaning up the dreaded eye brow. next thing on the list was to make up some tank lifts and chop the rear struts and fender. in the end, the bike is loud, fast and fun as hell to ride. check the specs

2009 harley davidson nightster
friscoed tank
removed front signals
relocated ignition
relocated coil
relocated speedo
Master blaster bars (dimpled by john for stock controls)
bmx grips
pep boys 4" auto air cleaner converted to a motorcycle air cleaner
chopped front eyebrow and risers
chopped rear struts & fender
sidearm exhaust by walt at ragerbuilt
forward controls
west eagle seat

awesome eh

love and hate... the story of a man and a muffin

I grew up a hater of anything pumpkin; as I imagined that it would taste alot like a sour potato, and the idea of having that in a pie was something that made me sick at the very thought of it. Years went by, and I would see people eating pumpkin pie and think "that must be gross. fools" that was until a few years ago when I was tricked into having a piece of pumpkin pie with whipped cream. I can remember it like it was yesterday, I was so into the pie, thinking "man, this cinamon nutmeg pie is awesome." after finishing the pie I was then told that I had actually eaten pumpkin pie; what wasted years I thought. Why did I deprive myself of the brilliance that is the pumpkin? Nostalgia aside, I have since fallen in love with the pumpkin, and the glorious treats it produces.

That brings me to the point of this whole post - As they do in the fall, the good people of Starbucks have released their amazing cream cheese pumpkin muffin. I love this thing, and have enjoyed three in the past 3 days. I even considered eating another one today, but was thwarted when starbucks had sold out of them; maybe a sign from a higher power that I should wait? Nevertheless, I will return tommorow. If you were like me and avoid pumpkin like the plague, do yourself a favor and drop in on a pumpkin cream cheese muffin, your tummy will thankyou.

Ode to the pumpkin muffin - I hate you pumpkin muffin for making me fat. I hate you pumpkin muffin for making me spend all my money. I hate you pumpkin muffin for the time I waste thinking about eating you…. I love you pumpkin muffin.. Until tommorow

super sunday

So I get a text from Naj asking if I wanted to join him and some buddies on a bike ride this past Sunday. As I hadnt seen Naj in some time, and experienced the crazyness of his hellraiser I jumped at the opportunity.

meeting spot at a local funeral home - is that bad karma?
The ride kicked off with about 10-15 guys in tow; and was predominatley sport bikes with a few harleys, a suzuki cruiser and a speed triple triumph thrown into the mix. Initially, it was mellow as we cruised around the backroads of langley bc, when the sport bike guys turned things up. My bike held its own, but was no match for the speed triple; that thing is unbelievebly fast.

speed triple single sided swingarm, awesome.
The crew planned to keep going to harrison, but a few of us had to head back and take care of domestic duties so Naj, a couple of buddies and I pealed off for a beer. Despite being horribly hung over from the night before I made it through a beer while laughing my ass of after hearing the latest edition of "fight stories with Naj." after scaring the other restaurant guests, we headed out for an entertaining ride home, full of wheelies, skids, and other awesomeness.

at the rest spot. the neighbours were scared.
Overall, a great day in the sun which left me hyped on how the bike performed. The family and I ended the day at one of my favorite places in the world, Spanish Banks. Thanks for the invite Naj, the hellraiser still kills it!

best way to end a great day.

stickers, we got stickers here, stickers

a few people know that i have been busily making die cut stickers for people on the side for the past few years. yeah, shred stickers have been the order of the day as kids from all over email me asking for a burton logo combined with a picture of their girlfriend. weird requests aside, i recently did up some stickers for the homies over at boltsaction and Jeremy featured said stickers on their blog.

Bolts!
This resulted in a bunch of folks that i havent dealt with before asking, "hey man, are you legit" and "where can i see your work" as that was the case, i put together a little blog dedicated to sticky side of my life. check it out here and if you want some die cut stickers done, drop me a line, thanks.

i'm going through changes.....

sing that title over again as Ozzy does, and it sounds alot better. Now, to the point; i was itching to change the bike up a bit and my old oil tank breaking ignited the change. what color to go with i thought? well, as henry ford said, "you can have any color you want as long as its black" so, black it was. I then lined up a new oil tank and sourced an alien tank from the good people at lowbrow. Threw it all back together and i'm backin it.

always bet on black

what the bike looked like a few short days ago

john boy trying it on for size. looks good son

the blues explosion is number one!

There I was, off in my own world when this weeks edition of the Georgia Straight literally landed in my lap. While perusing the pages, I was met with shock and surprise when I saw the words "Jon Spenser Blues Explosion playing tonight at Venue." The Blues Explosion, here, now? I said. Last time I had seen the rock trio was in 1999 (which I hailed as the best show I had ever seen) and after hearing that the band members had moved onto other projects I thought I would never see the trio again. Learing about the re-union tour was fate; and I did not question it, as I raced down and grabbed tickets brimming with excitement of what was to come.

Getting to the show I noticed that the crowd had changed since I had last seen the blues explosion. It was funny to see 30 something's wearing Ween and Sonic Youth T-shirts that barely fit anymore, but they still wore them proudly. We all had grown up since we last saw the band, and the overly tight t-shirts served as a metaphor of us middle agers holding onto our youth (just barely). Heavy eh.

russel simmins drumset - awaiting a solid beating
Opening for the band was the two piece combo named Rich Hope and his Evil Doers. Now I am not sure if these dudes were local guys, as they seemed to have a lot of support. One thing is sure, they made a wonderful racket for two guys. Frontman, Rich Hope is a charistmatic dude, that tells a great story while throwing down on the axe. Super impressed by these dudes, you should definetley check em out

wonderful noise from these two

the blues explosion!!!!!!!
Next up, was the Blues Explosion. When these dudes hit the stage the place went bonkers, and all three looked great with only Judah Bauer's grey goatie as a sign of age. Ripping through their catalogue, the blues explosion played bangers like: two kinds of love, afro, chicken dog, bellbottoms, dang, sweat and my personal favourite: blues explosion man. The band was tight, loud and jon has not lost any of his front man skills as he ruled the crowd with the sermon of the blues explosion. Russell simmins pounded the skins like animal from the muppet show, while judah bauer kicked it cool as always. Overall, the blues explosion is still the best live band on the planet, and yes, I'll say it as it was "easily the best show I have ever seen."

So you ask, it the blues explosion still number one? I answer with a resounding "yeah!"

to prove the brilliance of the blues explosion. watch this

told ya.

the haut dog

now, i really really like hot dogs. i cant say i love them, but i really like em. one person that loves them is one of my favourite actors of all time, Christoper Walken. Check out his essay on the hot dog

Do you enjoy eating hot dogs? I hope you won't be put off by my frankness when I tell you that I absolutely love them. In fact, I enjoy no food item more than a freshly-boiled hot dog.

Now, I've done a lot of movies, and it's true that I've worked with quite a few celebrities who did not share this opinion. I'm sorry to say that these people have always angered me. There are two types of people in this world: those who eat hot dogs whenever it is possible to do so, and those who opt to do other things with their free time.

Who do the latter think they are kidding? What pastime could be more rewarding than the consumption of hot dogs? I haven't yet found one, and I don't expect to in my lifetime.

Unlike other foods, hot dogs can be eaten at any time, in any place, and it is not necessary to cook them. Now, I ask you: Why not eat hot dogs? They are delicious. I carry a bag of hot dogs with me wherever I go. I eat them from the bag whenever I get the urge, regardless of the circumstances. When I make a movie, my hot dogs are my co-stars. If, in the middle of a scene, I decide I want to consume a hot dog, I do so. I waste the director's time and thousands of dollars in film stock, but in the end, it is all worth it, because I enjoy eating hot dogs more than I enjoy acting.

This bothers some people. I was supposed to portray Batman, but when Tim Burton learned of my hot dog cravings, he asked Michael Keaton to wear the cape. To this day, I am peeved about this.

When we filmed The Dead Zone, I ate over 800 hot dogs a day. It was necessary. My character needed to come across as intense as possible, and I found the inspiration for that intensity in my intense love for hot dogs. The director, David Cronenberg, said that he would never work with me again. I kept eating hot dogs when the cameras were rolling, and that seemed to bother him. I say f*ck him. He doesn't even like hot dogs.

I would like to end by emphasizing once again that I really like to eat hot dogs. If any of you people disagree, I loathe you. I despise you. Not only that, but I also despise all your loved ones. I want to see them torn to pieces by wild dogs. If I ever meet you in person, I'll smash your brains in with a f*cking bat. Then we'll see who doesn't like hot dogs.

how can you not love this man?

Summers here, are you ready?

considering the shit weather we are having i may have jumped the gun with the title of "summers here." nevertheless, Jai is loving the time off school and is truly livin the dream. Here i present a few minutes in the life of a kid that loves bike rides, candy and summer. enjoy

the boy's a star

After raving about my new seat the other day i send over a couple of pics to Bill at Biltwell. Next thing you know, Bill being the good dude he is posts em up on the biltwell blog. The best part is that he put a pic of Jai's "biltwell flyer" bmx - Jai stickered his ride up after getting his hands on my sticker pile, and i think it came out awesome. Plus the little fella is super excited at his taste of inner web superstardom.

my bum thanks you

recently i ran into a pothole that almost knocked me clear off my bike. the resulting damage was my seat bolts getting sheared off and a bunch of crap getting knocked loose. as my seat was messed i called up hiro at west eagle to order up another one. Bad news from Hiro as west eagle is closing its doors in california and selling in Japan only. My next choice was biltwell, who recently came out new slimmer seat. Now, i love tuck and roll stitching so the choice was obvious + the people at biltwell are awesome so i have no problems supporting them. How is the seat you ask? bloody comfy my friends, bloody comfy.

Saturday Afternoon Burner

John boy lined up a sweet Saturday afternoon ride with his shop homies. The plan was to roll to Richmond, pick up the boys and then rock it straight to North Van to enjoy the brilliance of 5 guy’s burgers. Sounds awesome, huh

Meeting up at the shop; this was the most entertaining place I have been to in years. I got to ride that Honda 150 in the picture, it was sweet.

Every successful bike ride starts at CT

Following the meal. Note the smiles, 5 guys is boss!

John boy showin his approval of said meal

The ride home was freakin fast.
Again, great ride. Thanks so much fellas – for the rest of the pics click here

slim down...

no my friends, not me - my handlebars. after riding john boys chop the other day i was hyped on his narrow bars. so, out came the hacksaw and i lobbed off 2.5 inches off each side in my attempt to make some lane splitters. now they are not as narrow as some of the wacky shit you see out there, but for me they are perfect. after finishing, i fired up the bastard and went out for a quick run. other than a slightly sticky throttle the bars were perfect. i even filmed the nonsense, so enjoy a couple of minutes of "testing" its a hard life.

love.... cycles

sorry for the overflow of motorbike posts lately, its due to the shit summer we are having and with snowboarding months away i'm getting obsessed with bikes.

so the other day i came across the blog of the heralded bike shop Love Cycles. Now this dude is sweet; he makes cool old school chops and that fact that he and i share the same physique and hairstyle (well, not anymore for me) just makes me want to buy a bike from him. Plus with a name like Love Cycles, you've just got to be down.

i'm gonna start saving my pennies and hopefully one day, i will have some love in my garage... hopefully

speed racers

Recently, Nan and the boys went up to Oregon Raceway to test out their rides and driving skills on the track. while i wasn't there, Nan has been raving about the experience every since.

now, I really dropped the ball on putting his video footage together, but better late than never i always say. so sit back and enjoy 8 minutes or 3.5 laps of ORP - nice drivin nanny boy!

by the way, i still hate techno, or trance or whatever you call it. but the footage is nan's so he picked the track; it does work well though

baggers and wolf shirts

Johnny boy and I dropped in on the Trev Deeley Show and Shine this weekend as we learned the unfortunate news that the Gastown motorcycle show may be cancelled for this year. So with the classic "I'm only gonna enter if you do" lines, we entered our bikes in the show and tested out our luck for the day. Strangely this years show had easily the lowest turnout that I have seen in ages, and while the bagger scene is obviously alive and well, the sporty and chop catagories were totally under-represented. That being the case, John and I were up against two other sporties - one which was an ode to the canucks with some crazy canucks thrown on it, and the other being a very clean, flame jobed 1200C. Despite this, people were hyped on the bikes and the feedback on the builds was super positive. In the end, John and I finished the day, winning the category; with John in second and me sneaking out the win which is actually funny as hell as neither of us expected anything.

the steeds

Additionally, a couple of Johnny's buds came out also with sporties which resulted in the highlight of the day; cruising 4 pack to the city = awesome.

the homies

Easily my favourite of the show. Built by world renowned bike builder Paul Cox, this thing took 3 years to build and the detail and workmanship was amazing

Overall, a pretty amazing day with some serious laughs and good times. Nice work fella's

he's a winner!!!!

I must be crazy

its true, i really must be nuts. Only a month or so after getting my bike all dailed and running, I already have the itch to build another one. Yes, I stated that I would probably never do it again, but for some strange reason I actually miss working on something. I know it's weird, but its true. This time around I am thinking about building a classic chop - you know, ole school engine, kickstart(?) and skinnier than a cracked out NYC fashion model. Who knows if it will really happen as cash is tight, and the priority is getting the house in order- but if I come across an old panhead motor or bike…. I may drop in.. Yes, I am insane

These are the bikes that are responsible for my latest craze - damn you all.

above are the two that started the craze, this years and last years born free giveaway bikes

easily my favorite bike of the past few years. chicago willies panhead - i love everything about this bike.
